Jonathan Ornelas Elects Free Agency

Infielder Jonathan Ornelas elected free agency after the Brewers designated him for assignment and he cleared waivers, exercising his right based on a previous outright assignment. The 26-year-old has struggled in the majors this season with a .190 average in 20 plate appearances across the Yankees, Athletics, and Brewers, but has performed well in Triple-A with a .310 average, 11 home runs, and 11 stolen bases in 308 minor league plate appearances. Ornelas will now seek opportunities on the open market, likely limited to minor league deals, though he would become postseason eligible if signed by September 1.
