Details On Tarik Skubal Trade Discussions

The Tigers traded two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal to the Dodgers for right-hander River Ryan, outfielder Zyhir Hope, and pitcher Brady Smith. Detroit accelerated the trade deadline by moving Skubal on Saturday rather than waiting until Monday, fearing that reported availability of George Kirby would cause other teams to pursue him instead and collapse the market for their ace. The Dodgers' package of young pitching and position player help aligned better with Detroit's preferences than the Brewers' competing offer, which featured shortstop Luis Pena and other prospects. Several other teams including the Yankees, Rays, Braves, and Cubs pursued Skubal but were unwilling to part with their top prospects for a rental player.
