Brewers Acquire Jonathan Ornelas From Athletics

The Brewers acquired infielder Jonathan Ornelas from the Athletics for cash considerations and activated him to play second base against the Dodgers, with Jihwan Bae designated for assignment in the corresponding move. The trade was possible because Ornelas had been designated for assignment and re-signed with Oakland on a minor league deal, keeping him off the 40-man roster and allowing him to be traded after the deadline. Ornelas, 26, appeared in six games with the A's this season but has performed well at Triple-A with a 128 wRC+, 11 home runs, and 11 stolen bases across 81 games. The Brewers value Ornelas primarily for his defensive versatility, as he can play multiple infield positions and has occasionally appeared in the outfield.
