Athletics claim Brewers' southpaw off waivers after unfortunate DFA

The Oakland Athletics claimed left-hander Drew Rom off waivers after the Milwaukee Brewers designated him for assignment to create roster space for infielder Ji Hwan Bae. Rom, 26, had been converted from a starter to a reliever by Milwaukee and posted a 2.20 ERA in 31 Triple-A appearances before making five big-league appearances with a 3.18 ERA. The Brewers had signed Rom to a minor league deal in the offseason, marking his return to the majors after last pitching for St. Louis in 2023.
